WHY WE EXIST

The organization's purpose is to be a resource for families and youth, to assist them in healing from all childhood victimizations. We desire to educate, empower, and support change toward equality by ending dominance, oppression, and abuse.

This foundation and its resources support the victims and the South Sudanese community in the U. S. through education about the prevalence of sexual assault while providing individual and group therapy, legal fee and hospital bill assistance, and much more. We offer services at NO cost to the victims.

We believe in the motto, "You cannot heal what you hide," so we aim to encourage people to speak up against cultural norms that were put in place to silence them.

OUR VISION

To impact lives and bring hope, healing, and transformation by empowering, inspiring, and motivating others to live their own life and dream big despite their environment.

OUR MISSION

To educate, empower, and support change toward equality by ending dominance, oppression, and abuse. To be a resource for families and youth, to assist them in healing from all childhood victimizations.

OUR INITIATIVES

  • Girl Child Education: Approximately 52-54% of South Sudan's population is women, and 97% of their population is illiterate. We believe the country needs to focus on educating the youth, especially young girls throughout South Sudan, for the sustainability and growth of the nation and families' well-being.

  • Early Child Marriage: Due to poverty, young girls are forced into early marriages for family sustainability and livelihood. Early Child Marriage is a high cost to the lack of girls' education in South Sudan.

  • Gender-Based Violence: Many women and men are suffering from unresolved trauma due to abuse and neglect at the hands of their partners, and they might not be aware of the resources available. We aim to provide resources and support them as they go through personal identification and transformation.

  • Tackling High Dowry Price: We believe that dowry plays a vital role in South Sudanese culture; therefore, the end goal is not to remove dowry but to put it on an affordable level that fosters growth and family values. Many young men throughout South Sudanese communities across the world, cannot afford to get married and set up families due to the high dowry. As a result, dowry has contributed to national conflict as young men raid villages to own many cattle heads for marriage purposes. The organization will intervene by lobbying South Sudanese leaders to outlaw high dowry prices.

THE BIG "5" PROGRAM

I Am NyaTongyik Foundation focuses on tackling the BIG FIVE, referred to us as a Mentorship program for young girls and boys, and women who are vulnerable, in the U.S and diaspora. We help them reshape and find meaning in their life using in-person and online activities that aid in their personal growth and transformation.

I Am NyaTongyik focuses on the following program areas:

  • Mentorship: Provide a safe future where justice and education exist for all South Sudanese women and girls in the U.S. and diaspora, by providing online and in-person mentors to help through life's challenges.

  • Education: Educate the global community by redefining harmful cultural and traditional norms by reinforcing moral values and implementing a foundation and structures that foster freedom, integrity, personal responsibility, and ethics both in the U.S. and South Sudanese communities across the world.

  • Scholarship: The organization will provide scholarships to exceptional students in the U. S. and East Africa, who cannot afford to further their education due to life's unexpected obstacles.

  • Counseling: Connects individuals with mental health counselors who provide 1-on-1 online counseling in the U.S. and diaspora to help them overcome trauma and support them throughout their healing journey.

  • Networking: Helps individuals in U.S. communities and communities around the world share new perspectives and ideas to help tackle challenges that keep youth from reaching their full potential.
